nice one Rebecca Rebecca you do add a few , so please forgive us if we miss one or two now and again , we may not always comment but we still admire your work Alan

You are very kind Alan :-) i know i paint a lot :-p but i only upload 2 a day now instead of 4, perhaps if I am very excited about another painting i want to share i may upload 3, but I try to keep it to 2 a day now :-) it is really lovely of you, and you have made my day to say my work is admired :-) thank you :-) i think you paintings are far better than mine any day :-)

You are busy Rebecca. Great markings on your giraffe, I could not attempt this drawing!

of course you could Carole :-) and it would be far better than mine :-) im really happy you like the markings, they were the toughest part :-) your comments made me smile, thank you :-)

Full marks for your courage, Rebecca! I always want to paint a giraffe until I start on the patterns. Then I give up! This is really interesting, but the geometric shape of the giraffe's markings and the way you did the eye - it's very Picasso-esque! I like it a lot!

thanks so much Seok :-p i will keep trying, practice, practice :-) i think you could paint an excellent Giraffe, your elephants are perfect :-)

I think your giraffe is absolutely lovely Rebecca! You have a special touch with drawing animals and practicing starts to show. Well done!

I like it, I have tried to do giraffes so I know how difficult they are, not just the shape but those markings to contend with - I found I got horribly bogged down with the markings. You have done well

Hi Satu :-) thanks so much for such lovely and encouraging comments. I do love birds, especially foreign types because they are so colourful :-)

yes they are totally difficult Jenny, even with me trying to make it simple it was hard :-) il keep trying :-) thanks so much for lovely comments :-)

This was incredibly difficult for me to try and capture. This is my very first attempt at trying to capture a Giraffe. I sketched it first from a photo from arkive.org. Then i used Pebeo Chinese ink with calligraphy dip pen. Then i covered the entire giraffe with W/N opaque white watercolour paint, and while it was still wet, added some gamboge yellow brusho watercolour. Once that was dry, i used Brusho brown for the markings, the white was still wet on the markings, and so it added light and dark markings which i feel is more realistic, but not what i had originally thought about doing :-p the water i had tried using Reeves ultramarine blue, but it is years old and did not work very well, so that is going in the bin :-) so i then used Brusho Prussian blue with a little leaf/dark green here and there :-) the paper is the same sheet but the back of the Blue Chaffinch i uploaded yesterday :-) it is from St Cutherberts Mill and i think roughly 535gsm, not too sure :-) hope you all do not hate it :-p any advise regarding giraffe drawing for beginners? :-)
