Hi Rebecca. I like your series of Butterflies. My favourite is the Large Blue. I hate to criticise anyone, but with this one I feel you have the same problem as I do when I am painting in watercolour. My struggle is with tone and value. I tend to slap on the paint too thickly and lose that transparrent look. Having said that you have done a better job than i could ever have done. I hope this helps.

Hi Chris. That's made me smile, thank you. :-) I am glad you have a favourite of my butterfly paintings so far. Tone and value.......................total foreign elements to me :-p I know i should be learning, but it's boring :-p i think because teachers have made it boring for me, and so i got fed-up with learning and went my own way with not much knowledge (always dangerous) :-) If someone could make the technical parts of art simpler to understand and more fun to learn, i would be happy to learn them :-) proportion is difficult as you may see with my butterflies i try to capture, some come across as squashed on the paper, but if i use big sized paper, which is difficult for me because of my size and in-ability to reach far, i would create a gigantic butterfly, i use A6 in the hope i may get the butterflies to one day be their normal size and not vulchers :-p I rarely like any art i create which is why this site is helpful to me with people like you helping and saying if they like it or not, for example, ( my folder of art called paintings that have gone wrong) I was told people liked the first panting and that it was one of my best, even though i dislike it totally and think it went totally wrong. (maybe POL people are just being kind) :-)  I like your help, thank you :-) I seem to remember that you do not seem to have trouble with your artwork, i like it. Thank you for looking at my artwork and commenting.

Another addition to your butterfly gallery, a lovely set. I see one or two every year settling in the sun on warm concrete. There is one here at the moment!

Ps. my favourite is the monarch2.

That is so nice of you Carole, and how wonderful that one has landed on the warm concrete just as you had looked at my painting of them :-) ah you think Monarch 2 is better, that's cool, thank you :-) is that because of the colours, is the size better maybe? The colour of this red admiral bands (red/orange) i am not sure about, whereas the one i did yesterday that is in (paintings that have gone wrong) i think the colour of the bands could be better, but what do you think? I always appreciate your comments :-)

Lovely collection of butterflies
