Cherry Blossom

This is delightful, Rachael. The darks are very important aren't they....to give depth and bring your blossoms forward to spring into life. You have done a very good job on the background too, which is not an easy part to do.

This is absolutely wonderful. The mixture of defined blooms and misty blooms gives so much interest to the painting. The colours are perfect. A truly accomplished piece of work.

I love this, especially the lost and found blossom and the background which I find really hard to do with this sort of painting. Your greens are wonderful; so natural.

Thank you all. I have painted cherry blossom a few times before and never quite had the courage to go dark on the background. I'm really glad I did now although it was a bit daunting! Thank you for the comment about greens. They were always a problem until I hit on mixing payne's grey with yellows so you can get dark and natural looking colours. I hate the ready mixed greens. Another good colour combo is indigo with quinacridone gold. Incidentally I always use W&N artists for all my colours and their paynes grey is a navy blue.....excellent for mixing although I still avoid using it alone.By itself it always seems a rather desolate colour!

I agree with all the above - it's a beautiful painting.

This is such a beautiful painting. Lovey delicate washes.

This was a bit of a challenge! I wasn't happy until I bit the bullet right at the end and put in the dark wet in wet at the top and some of the fainter branches which helped to give a bit of much needed depth. I was quite pleased with the rather misty feeling.
