Jack the Border Collie

Well you certainly do animal portraits - and this is very good, especially the rough texture of the fur. And what wonderful blue eyes, they make this stand out.

Absolutely beautiful. The detailing on the fur is lovely and his eyes are stunning.

This is beautifully painted Art , if this is you painting with needing practice I can wait to see what you produce .

Wow, those eyes!

Stunning work.

Such a lovely portrait and I love collies with blue eyes.

Well... Your positive comments dear friends have made me speechless.., as I was expecting some criticism rather, than such a kind words 😊 THANK YOU !!!

Beautifully painted.

Superb piece of work! I've never used alkyds - always 'regular' oils: but I'm amazed at what you've been able to achieve with them here.

Thanks a lot Robert for your positive opinion! As you aware, it's the first oils since 2019, so it's full of uncontrolled strokes 😅, and fulfilled with best wish not to ruin it 😅. Therefore I'm pleased, that so many artists in here like it... I'm opposite - I was scared of regular oils, so always I was using Alkyds... But now I'm going to full switch to regular oils Robert - first time. This dog, and the soldier are Alkyds, but my present WIP project will be done in regular oils. Yes, I did stain canvas with Alkyds, and I did sketch basic outlines(block in too) with Alkyds, just because I have many tubes left!, so I'm about use these for underlays...

Arthur - just looked at your last comment: some very good artists use alkyd oils exclusively; I don't, only because when I started over 50 years ago, I was unaware of them. I understand that they work well with conventional oils, so don't go impoverishing yourself by replacing the lot! Add the 'normal' oils tube by tube to your alkyds, and you may find that you prefer your alkyd paints to some of the colours available in full oils (if I can use that word to describe them - simply saying 'non-alkyds' might be better, since these are not poor relation colours: just oils which dry a lot faster).

Thank you Robert again for keen reply ;) I'm not getting NOTIFICATIONS at all, when new comment is posted?, that's upsetting... So I just spot your comment by coincidence... The problem is obviously not down to Alkyds at all, but me myself rather. Alkyds did suit me all the time, but this time it's my COME BACK to oils you see. I wanted make it exclusive, somehow different... I've never had tried regular oils, therefore I did that *switch you see. I decided -> regular oils straight out the tube, no any solvents, no any other mediums. Just pure oil colour applied over the surface. It lets me enjoy it my painting more, I'm getting that extra feeling I'm taking part of something special... Touching with bristles the chosen paint colour, making strokes with it... I don't know, lol, I just wanted experience something unique ;)

It's my sister's puppy. I decided to paint him as a "warm up". I decided to get back to oils, so I need a lot of practice... 12"x16" Pastelmat paper, acrylic gesso primed. Winsor&Newton Griffin Alkyd oils.
