Very good John. You're right prep is everything and I've done similar things several times!

As Heather says! It's not the top, underpainting is always the most important! This is really good, though! pity about the line! Love your handling of her dress, and the sft transitions on the cow

A really good piece and amazed you did this on an 8 x 8 canvas.

I like it as it is , a bit rough looks fine to me .

Wonderful painting John.

I think the fact that it is, as you call it, 'a bit rough' brings it to life.

Good one John 🙂

Just as interesting to read about problems - a small painting does require a finer surface, I know this myself. You’ve isolated the composition very well John, it looks as though it was meant to be.

Excellent work John.

A lovely piece of work John.

Oh dear poor Daisy never gets any peace to do what she wants! Excellent painting despite the line John.

Good work John!

Love this painting, the cow is so determined to grab one last munch of grass before being pulled away, that look in her eyes is so right!

Another super Daisy painting, love the determined look in her eye!

Thank you folks for your comments, it is very much appreciated.

Really like the way you've done Daisy. (And a good reminder why one should gesso!)

As Heather said, prep is everything but nevertheless this is a super and well detailed painting, and so small!

A crop from a larger painting of the 19th century artist Julian Dupre. Oil on canvas box frame 8x8 inches. As I did not gesso the canvas i was unable to get the fine detail in, its a bit rough. Also a line going through the canvas. Will be more careful in future.
