I really like this sketch, very striking. It would look great framed i think!

Thanks Lyzanne, enjoyed looking at your blog too - nice drawings!

I should be happy if I could produce a characterful sketch like this in my lunchtime.

Hi Robert, Well I make a concerted effort to try new things during that hour at work that's different to my day job, (as an art director, which is also fortunately artistic but completely 'commercial'!). So it's really the practice of doing short bursts in a defined time that hones the skill - try a time constraint sometime perhaps? It's actually quite 'freeing' as there's no time for fussiness! Good luck!

I like your individuality & sense of design/style, enjoyed looking at your portfolio. PS don't you eat?

:) Thanks Jenny for your kind comments! Yes, I do eat, but usually alongside my lunchtime work sketching! More at http://www.petergander.blogspot.com

Keep on lunchtime sketching, Peter...and what a satisfying job you must have as an art director.....?

Hello again Ruth, yes the art director job is fun and creative in a different way, but it's the fine art that really fires the passion these days after 25 years in the business! It's great suiting oneself even if it is only in my spare time ;)

Today's lunchtime sketch, a Chinese-style cockerel painted in white ink in my black paper sketchpad. Painting the fiddly tail feathers in the negative was a little tricky and not wholly successful, but the inner body feathers in white on black are effective, especially where the white ink sinks in giving varying strengths of white, depending on how dilute it was.
