Great painting, and what an elegant signature! It has weight and sits perfectly on that shelf. The oil drips are spot on. Are the shadows really that deep? Was the light source particularly strong? JJ

Thanks for that Brian - yes there was a strong light source and the shadows emphasised somewhat for the effect - my camera has also darkened the whole thing as you can probably tell from the frame which in fact should show as a white gloss.

A very modern painting of an old object, good idea and great execution.

Terrific postings Trevor. This is superb, the oil drips especially.

Thanks Fiona - had a lot of trouble with the real oil drips - ran down too quickly to photograph or draw so Used Golden Syrup which behaved perfectly!

Lol....good thinking Trevor.....still messy to mop up all the same! Worth it though.

A reminder of times past – my grandad’s old oil can – always sitting on a shelf in the garage always ready to use at the drop of a hat – always topped up with oil and always dripping. This is painted in W & N Griffin Alkyd oil on a 40cm x 30cm stretched canvas set in a contemporary white tray frame.
