Hi Paul, I like this, its colurful, has depth and the boat is well drawn and painted. Coluld you print it out first on thick paper and try out the changes?

I woudn't crop - in fact I think the strength of the yellow wash plus the signature on the right helps balance the weight of of the boat on the left. A signature should never be overlooked - I often use it to assist in balance as part of the picture itself as is the case here - in fact I often add a signature in pencil first just to see if it is in the right place before permanently commiting it in ink. Not sure about land mass reflections - worth a try as suggested by Stephen. Anyway as for the picture itself it is a lovely study - I do like it with or without any changes.

My last few efforts have lacked a bit of colour and hardly any of the skies I've painted are much more than blue dabbed across the top...so I thought I'd try a couple of colourful skies. I didn't draw the scene first and found that once I'd started to paint the boat it was a bit too far left. I'm toying with the idea of cropping the right hand side just left of the signature which will take the land right across the page. The land wasn't reflected in the sea but the land looks like it's floating. Would it help to add a reflection or make the land paler?
