White and black charcoal on Stonehenge black paper. This is a commission, a customer had seen my drawing of 'Christmas Holly' and my 'Angel' drawing and wanted me to combine the two to make a drawing of holly on black paper. I don't think I have ever drawn anything so difficult. The shadows caused me lots of problems. How do you create shadows on black paper? I am sure there is a simple method but in the end I had to apply white pastel to the shadow areas in order to make them pop out. Needless to say it took me so long over Christmas that the holly leaves had curled up and the berries had wrinkled!
