I like this, Pat, though I really am not qualified to comment as portraiture is not my thing at all. The character comes through well in this I think...perhaps it could have been positioned slightly differently..the head is almost disappearing over the top of the support? Very effective though,..I love it.

The only snag with this is the top of the head - there's about as much above the eyes as below them, but this chap looks a bit squashed. I should certainly have a go at more, though, because you've still caught a character. Some stronger shadows would have helped you mould the forms.

My first attempt at an oil portrait, though adapted from a photo. It took a long time to paint as my initial drawing was not too accurate - but I enjoyed doing it, something new to try. It's a very different approach to my usual landscapes. I'll try a couple more portraits later this month and eventually throw away the photo idea, just paint from observation, which is what I prefer.
