David Collins sent in his woodland painting saying: 'I decided to have a second attempt at this scene. I added ultramarine blue to the colours used in the previous version which were cobalt blue, yellow ochre, sap green, burnt sienna and winsor yellow. The paper was a piece of 16 by 12 140lb Bockingford. I stretched this and made sure it was completely dry before starting to paint. The addition of ultramarine allowed me to produce much darker tones so the initial result was a much more subdued painting. I lifted out some areas of colour in the tree lines with a piece of kitchen towel and left the painting to dry. When the painting was dry I carried on lifting colour with the help of a battery powered eraser and cotton buds to increase the misty atmosphere'
