Jane Clarke sent in her version of Paul's October challenge saying: 'This is my second attempt at Paul's challenge as the first became over fussy and also resembled a river rather than a lane! I laid down some washes very freely after lightly sketching out the lane and verges and allowed these to dry. Following Paul's instructions I then put in the trees and verges allowing colours to merge. I used a smaller brush to suggest the trees along the left side and finally painted the shadows on the road using a large brush. The painting is loose and I resisted the urge to fiddle about trying to make areas more realistic as this then becomes a never-ending circuit around a painting as you t become more and more unhappy. Paul's challenges have made me see how techniques can make even the most boring photograph a lesson learned.'
