Germaine de Luca sent in her version of Paul's October challenge saying: 'I use water mixable oils, so I was able to follow this challenge by using water as my medium to make my first few layers of paint very thin, messy, and loose. ( I usually don't thin my paints as I normally use them straight from the tube without any medium) My palette was limited to Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, and Titanium White. I worked from the photo right from the magazine so I didn't focus on details or enlarge it. I decided to lay in the sky in first. I followed this by thinly washing in all the darks , followed by the mid tones, and adding some tree trunks. I then started focusing on all the light areas where the sun was shining though. As I focused on the lightest areas I started getting more detailed with the foliage. The final touch was to add some leaves on the ground.'
