Paul Talbot-Greaves Challenge Two - July 2017
Germaine De Luca sent in her version of Paul's challenge sating: 'Paul's suggested 70% soft edges to 30% hard forced me to really focus on my painting while taking on this month's challenge. I decided to use a very minimal palette for this 9" x 12" oil study. I began by blocking in the darks with black (as my blue) and burnt sienna. I added yellow ochre to block in some of the mid tones. I then added the sky by using titanium white and a little alizarin and yellow ochre. After the sky was put in I started putting in my highlights for the effect of light, and for adding texture. I scrapes in blades of grass and tree trunks, and finished by adding some flowers with alizarin crimson and titanium white. I tried to keep my brush strokes loose throughout the painting, and not get detailed in any one area.'
