Judy Chaudhri sent in her version of Paul's exercise saying: 'My painting ground was alizarin crimson mixed with lemon yellow and some white, to give an early morning feel to the painting. I used a small brush to paint the wall, gate and tree trunks, and also the first layer of shadowy and sunlit grass. Colours were lemon yellow, ultramarine and burnt umber, with a little burnt sienna and raw sienna. The grasses were worked with a palette knife, which I found gave me a much livelier finish than using a small brush. The finer branches were put in using pieces of card. I enjoyed this exercise and look forward to the next one!'
