Debbie Cullis sent in her version of Moored Up saying: 'I have recently received my February issue of 'The Artist' and I was so excited by the new Challenge, Moored Up, I wanted to have a go in pastel pencil, using sepias, yellows and oranges. I had a play around with the photo as described and then enjoyed the experience of drawing it. I have previously drawn, using sepia colours only, to draw the Callanish Stones and oldy world historical subject matter here on the Hebrides. It was a good exercise in experimenting with tones. I prefer pastel pencil to capture the detail of line, tone, pattern in the sky and contours in the sea. I chose a light base colour of an ivory tone, as an underying colour. I layered up the colours of the pastel pencils to get the depth of hue. It was difficult seeing light in the boats and bushes in the background, but, I can see light in the mind and create the feel for it, when not there. Similar to Matisse's quote: "Colour is a
