January Challenge
Helen Melia sent in her version of Paul's exercise saying: 'This is painted in acrylics on canvas board (20 x 25mm) predominantly with a 3/4" short flat. I decided to make it a night-time scene with the light coming from the viewer's direction, as if by torchlight or moonlight. With the base (a mix of phthalo blue, Paynes grey and permanent rose) still wet, the white was dolloped straight onto the canvas and moved around to pick up the blue tones. Stones and wood are a mix of burnt umber, dioxazine purple and Paynes grey. The tree was painted impasto in Paynes grey and the snow highlights added once dry'
