Ian Stevenson sent in his shoreline exercise saying: 'my version of Paul Talbot-Greaves exercise 5 which I have titled, Shoreline Outpost as the photo reminded me of the Antarctic explorers shacks or the outback in Australia or South Africa. My painting is based on the reference photo and is painted using some of the ideas that Paul has outlined in his article. Painted on 300 g/m2 Bockingford rough stretched paper using Atilier Interactive Acrylics and liquefying medium and some black pen work to give the foreground pebbles form. I set the composition out in a quick pencil drawing then, using a watery mix of turquoise graduated down to umber as an under painting using a 25 mm. wash brush applied very loosely. I then painted in the sky and the tonal values of the outpost shack and added the smoking chimney to suggest strong winds and human occupation of the shack.
