PTG Exercise 4 - In the Shade
Martyn Long sent in his version of this month's exercise saying: 'I wetted the whole paper (Bockingford 200lb), applying wet washes of ultramarine blue and naples yellow to create the sky and lighter foreground areas. No flow medium, so I diluted the pigment with water and worked very quickly! Once dry, I laid in the lighter areas of the tree mass, wall and shadow area, and background areas with watery washes. Now several layers of full strength mixes: Tree masses, wall, and foreground shadow. Finally details; sheep, distant tree, birds (‘eye-stop’ on the left hand side); and ‘glazed’ naples yellow for the sunbeams.'
