PTG Exercise 4 - In the Shade
Helen Melia sent in her version of Paul's exercise saying: 'This was a compositional challenge so I stretched out the visible moors in the background and created a gateway to them. I used a 8 x 10" canvas board, underpainted with a mix of burnt sienna and white. A burnt umber wash defined the darks, thicker mixes of cerulean blue and titanium white for sky ,and lemon yellow and ultramarine blue for grass. Darks on trees and deepest shadows are dioxazine purple, ultramarine and burnt umber, with raw sienna to warm treetrunks and wall. The wall tops were picked out in white, and a lemon glaze defines branches in sunlight.'
