PTG Exercise 2 - Shadows on a Path
Alan Benton sent in his version of Paul's exercise saying: 'For this painting I started with a strong Amsterdam acrylic vermillion ground. I darkened the areas of the strong shadows, and thinned it out on the lighter areas ( like a light wash) . I also thinned out the edges on the dark areas as I wanted to use phthalo blue's transparent qualities over them eventually. I built my light areas up from permanent yellow to a strong heavy layer to impress areas of light. I used a little pyrrole red as my popping colour to finish. I put in heavy texture paint with strong marks in the foreground, I hope it all works'
