Great drawing Nigel, the tonal variation especially your darks is spot on.

I was always told you should open gates to let the viewer in. But this works very well, as the gate is quite low in the composition. Very good use of tone.

Thank you Mike, Barry and Stephen. They were just Staedtler pencils, 2H and HB to 4B to get the varying tones. I must have got lucky with the locked gate being low!
