I really like the water and the shapes leading down to it. The shapes under the bridge are nice, too, but I would somehow like to move the tower a bit to the left or a bit to the right so it's not quite so central. The purples and blues are lovely.

Thanks for the comment - tower was deliberately placed in the centre going against the rules of composition! Neil

I like purple works very much. Is the bridge engineering correct? I t looks fine to me how you have depicted it. Artistic licence is one thing but being true to ancient craftsmen is another thing to respect.

thanks Phill. The painting is based on my on site sketch and from my reference photos for accuracy. The bridge dates from about 1400 so I the engineering should be OK! The arch to the right of the tower would originally have been a wooden draw bridge as at Sauveterne. The main town is to the left - as is the Pau/Bordeaux railway line just off the edge of the painting, and the town ramparts. To the right are the old peasants houses. Artistic licence is taht I have painted the bridge as at sunrise and there is no light in the tower window.

Revisits...It was Angie's comment that threw me. I re-read 'tower in the centre of the painting' not the centre of the bridge. I still think it's brilliant in all respects well done. a painting of great intrigue
