i think this is great..chris

Lovely portrait, I love her hair, she looks deep in thought

Thanks for your comments. It's a painting of my niece that I completed last year - don't think her mother was to enamoured. She was expecting something else after seeing the painting of my daughter Heather. Jasmine is intelligent and wise beyond her years and that is what I have tried to capture.

Lovely portrait Neil, This is your style. I have taken photographs on pause TV and used them, it's a good source. Have you tried freefoto.com.

Thanks Jeannette. I did enjoy painting this. For the face, using a number 1 round brush, I mixed the paint on the canvas, first applying lots of mixing white and gradually introducing raw sienna, burnt umber and yellow ochre. For the hair, I used burnt umber and black applied quite thickly. To get the texture and design ('cornrows') across the scalp, I used a worn brush dragging the ferrule across the head, pushing into the canvas. I didn't think to much when painting it and the majority was painted in about two hours. I haven't tried freefoto, but I will take a look, thanks.
