Very powerful Nathan, what's the medium?

Thank you Heather. Lately I've been prepping mountboard with Gesso mixed with pumice powder to create a 'tooth' and it seems to create a nice surface for working with pastels/charcoal/carbon pencils etc. With this one I also gave it a layer of thinned oil paint (again mixed with pumice powder) to create a nice base tone.

Good piece or work Nathan. I use pumice powder then went on to marble dust, has a wonderful grip for pastels.

Thanks John. I'll have to give marble powder a try, but I'm quite surprised by how good pumice powder is.

A very impressive piece of work Nathan. I just read your bio and can sympathise with your experience of entering competitions etc. I have also reached the stage where I’m painting for my own enjoyment. I always found preparing for exhibitions stressful and unfruitful!

Thanks Tessa. I've kind of given up with competitions and downgraded social media posts as I found them quite unfulfilling. Doing art for the sake of art is where I'm at now.
