Spencer, this is a beautifully executed piece of old master style of painting. Very little you could improve on. I take it that it was painted in oils?

Thank you all and yes it's water-mixable oils, Gavin. As a side note, the game icon ended up being the most problematic for me after the orange. To be honest, I'm still not happy with either, but I've learnt over the years to stop before I make things worse!
