Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments, particularly those relating to the impression of liveliness. I had intended to capture the spirit of the music and the city, and elected to go straight in with the brush, with no preliminary drawing. It seems this has paid off. There is another marching band picture in my portfolio which did involve preliminary drawing and I'd appreciate a view on the extent to which spontaneity may have been lost as a result of preliminary drawing. Thank you!
