This is excellent. One of your best in my opinion. Beautiful use of colour.

Another striking portrait. We all have self-doubt, Michael - it's what keeps us honest - we need a bit of it, but not too much: striking the balance is the really difficult thing. Because I have a depressive illness, pretty well controlled now, after many years, I can have periods of hating my own stuff; fortunately, I can usually recognize the difference between being "not very well just now", and objective self-criticism. I had to fight to achieve it, though - if I'd given in to it, I'd never have painted anything: the human mind can be our worst enemy, if we let it.

PS - Lew is right: this is one of your best.

This portrait is beautifully done Michael. Superb use of colour.

Very Good Portrait...

It's lovely Michael, very powerful indeed. All the comments from others about self doubt are spot on ... I think it's what spurs us on and I know without it maybe things wouldn't be the same. Bet Turner et al suffered the same.

A really beautiful portrait, Michael, in your distinctive style.

I'm amazed at the response for this picture. I didn't expect much attention at all really. I've been working on it for several months on and off. Thankyou so very much for the encouraging comments.

Thankyou also for the very lovely comments about self doubt which really touched me. Robert I fully empathise and thankyou for your great comments.

This has such a beauty about it, really stands out in the gallery.

Oil on canvas. I've not been so active today in my painting. Abit of self doubt rearing its head and its took the wind out of my sails. I'm doing very well. I should be delighted really. These things happen even to the best.
