Still life by Michael Moore

Michael, your paintings go on getting better and better and this is wonderful. Your use of colour, your darks and now this wonderful stoneware bottle and glass.

Excellent painting,I have one of these old gin bottles and this is a really good painting of one .

Wow! The glass is superb as is the curvature and colour of the flagon.

Thankyou so much your comments mean a great deal to me. I was having a few doubts. I felt the glass was in a slightly different perspective to the bottle. I should go easier on myself. I'm often abit too hard on myself. I've made improvements as a painter so I shouldn't beat myself up for a few minor defects. I think it's because I hope to earn some kind of living as an artist so I often try to rush myself on in my progress.

This is really good Michael, it's very simple and understated with some great textures describing the two items. I think the sharpness of the glass contrasts the out of focus look of the bottle perfectly...I like it

Your drawing skills are coming on apace - maybe all you need is a bit more self-confidence: you're painting very interesting pictures, in a very unusual style - the subject here may not be unusual, but its treatment is. The only snag here is that you've awakened my appetite for a slug of gin, but to be honest that would have happened anyway as the day wore on.... If you do have problems with your drawing, the answer is to do more and more drawing, in pencil, ink, and/or paint. You have a very impressive work-rate though, so I expect you know that.

Your Still Lifes are very good Michael. This one in particular….the cool colours of the glass and the area around it contrast perfectly with the warmth of the rest of the painting.
