How could he not like it? This is such a superb watercolour - colour, composition, washes, I especially like the way you have merely hinted at his hat and right shoulder - really great Midori

that poor man! standing out in the hot sun. Was it worth it? yes, and yes again. beautiful work. the texture of his skin, and the depth of the beard. All beautifully captured. Possibly one of your best midori.

I agree with the comments above Midori - it's fantastic. I'm so impressed by the range of different subjects you paint, I've never really tried a portrait in watercolour and I don't think I could do anything like this!

Hi Machael, Super composition? Really? I painted a half of 30cm x 44cm paper. Finally half was not good composition, so I changed the plan. So there is a pencil line on the paper which I planned the first. I forgot to erase it.

Hi Tony, yes, he is really poor man. He was asked to stand under the sun. That was almost 12 noon. The sun was already really strong. Almost all Afgan guys have mustache and beard. So it is very difficult to guess their age. He looks like Santa, but I'm sure he must be still 30s.

Hi Heather, I love portraits. These days, I've come to like useing so many tools to paint. I realized fingers are pretty nice tools especially. I had done oil and acrilic long time ago, but watercolour is the best medium for me. Happy Sunday!!! because here UAE, a week start from Sunday.

One of your best, I think, Midori. You've captured the sunlight on his face and the expression beautifully.

Last Wednesday, when Al Ain Watercolour club went to Al Ain Vegetable souq, we got a really friendly Afganistan guy. I asked him to stand under the sun and took photos. I'm going to show this portrait next Wednesday. I hope he like it.
