I had the idea of juxtaposing my own Service tags with my Father's POW tags not to draw equivalence of my own service with his immeasurably worse experience but to draw attention to that difference. The relatively manufactured quality of my own tags contrasts markedly with the crude impersonality of the life of a POW. As a secondary aim, I wanted to commemorate some of my family’s service to this country, hinting a little at its cost.
