You saw the hidden beauty of a piece of tired old root and turned it into something to be admired. This is lovely Michael, it looks very tactile.

Wow Michael, you're a man of many talents! This does remind me to some extent of some olive wood sculptures I saw in Israel. The contours and natural lines of this piece are really attractive.

It looks wonderful Michael!

I love it! Clearly inspired by the Olympics - Judo I guess. Get John Lewis to display it at, say, £500 (not too ambitious just yet) and you've opened up whole new career. Terrific!

This is beautiful Michael, what talent you have.

Thanks all - it was certainly fun to do

Olive wood is so attractive with beautiful colours Michael. You have made it look like a beautiful little sculpture.

You certainly have a talent for finding and modelling an object of beauty:)

Very much appeals to me. Good to look at, tactile and a talking point.

Thought I would pop this one in the gallery - something different! I found a piece of olive root in the middle of Sardinia and brought it home - it was dirty and I had no idea what to do with it but there was just something about that attracted me to it. When I got home I started carving and shaping it and out of the grot came forth lovely contours and colours. It has a quite different form depending on the angle it is viewed from which adds to the interest. I polished it and put felt pads on the base and, voila, a modern sculpture - it stands at about 6 ins high. Hope you like it.
