Sheffield 1970 - the sky of steel

Very atmospheric, the brush strokes in the sky make it look like we are seeing through a mist and there is some super structure behind (particularly in the upper right section)

Yes the super structure is intended. I didnt want to go on and on about progress and shadows of the future but there is a symbolic value to the picture.

Like your symbolism, Michael. So much in our world changes!

I love this Michael. I used to live around the Rotherham area for a few years and witnessed the decline of the pits and steel works. The colours in that sky are glorious. It takes me back to my student days when I had a love of painting industrial landscapes.

Thankyou Diana. Rotherham even now is a blend of the industrial and rural.

Beautifully done Michael, it has that Blade Runner feel to it. Adam

Painted from imagination so i do apologise to any steel experts who know full well that steel factories were not built like this. I live just a few miles from Sheffield although in all fairness i dislike South Yorkshire. Its hard for me to fit in.

About the Artist
Michael Hanrahan

I love art but it's very much up and down as I go about my day to day life as a painter and often I really struggle to paint therefore I fall out with it. You're only as good as your last painting as they say. My greatest love is music and I prefer to write classical music for orchestra than paint…
