Bleak indeed, the colour in the smoke looks great against the cold sky.

Thank you everyone. I've got a photo from 1929 of men with shovels trying keep the water in the troughs from freezing - total protective clothing a cloth cap!

Just east of Melton Mowbray were Brentingby water troughs and it could be a very bleak place in winter!
