'Barden Tower, North Yorkshire' by Martin Williamson

'Barden Tower, North Yorkshire' As you take the road out of Bolton Abbey and head up Wharfedale you will pass the ruins of Barden Tower, a fortified hunting lodge. The site dates from Norman times but the present tower was originally built in the late 15th century by Henry Clifford, of Skipton Castle. In fact it is said that he preferred to live in this fine location rather Skipton Castle itself. The building fell into disrepair and was restored in 1658 by Lady Anne Clifford. It fell into final decline in the late 18th century. Painted on the spot in mixed media. 14.5" x 10.5"
