And what a success this is Marion! The colours are great and the strength of the metal certainly comes across.

This is a super painting just oozing texture. It is so well painted and I am not surprised your got hooked once you started painting it. Well done Marion!

This is really good. I love to paint rust. You got great texture.

Agree with all above - you've caught the black of extreme rust, and the flaking of the metal.

Fantastic painting, Marion, real texture and depth. This picture just grabbed me as I browsed the gallery!

Great image and technique, not so rusty yourself

Fabulous! Great colours and texture.

Super painting, lovely tonal depth and colour in the rust.

Your treatment of the flaking rust is excellent. Wonderful colours.

Very dark shadow! Super!

This is wonderful. The chain has so many colours and textures which makes it an interesting focal point in the painting. However, I cannot ignore the way you have painted the stone behind it which is quite superb.

This is so striking, love that rust!

Thank you so much, everyone - quite overwhelmed by so many kind observations. I begin to suspect this will do well at our summer exhibition!!

I agree with all of the comments, you have managed to create such texture in that rust and that muted background of the stone really makes the chain stand out. Wonderful work.

Very nice work :)

Great work Marion, really good rusty chain, like photo-realism which is the ideal way to paint something like this, so effective

I thought to spend the last half hour at Art Club 'doodling' something on the back of an old sketch, and used a fellow member's photo for inspiration. However, I was soon hooked, and had to start working properly to try to achieve the look of abandoned, rusty old chains. Mostly water colour, some acrylic ink and a little texture medium.
