Could I make a suggestion Malcolm? A better composition would be to have your focus ( the tower ) slightly off centre. I've just downloaded a free app ( artgrid) from Jackson's and it's got good tips on how to compose your subject. It's for I pad.

Thanks for that Marjorie, I agree with you, I did it like this simply because at the time I saw it , it struck me as so dominant in the landscape I wanted it to say that even though it is a bad from the composition angle. But I very much appreciate you taking the time to look and offer guidance much appreciated, it's one of the things I hope to gain from contact with people such as yourself and I will certainly look up the app, many thanks.

This small work is of one of the tower houses to be found in the Scottish borders, it is preserved and you can go all the way to the top discovering its history. It is well off the beaten track and you go through a farmyard to get to it before parking up, then a short walk to the tower, the approach walk is worth it as it gives you several different aspects, I did a number of different sketches while there, a worthwhile place to visit.
