This painting was executed whilst I was exhibiting at Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire. I took my inspiration from the plasterwork in the hall and added the rose. I was experimenting by combining the detail from the plasterwork against the delicate features of the rose. I started by completing several sketches of both items until i was happy with the composition. I washed in the background colour, then the plasterwork followed by the rose. More detail was added both on the objects and in the background to enhance the objects. I finished by adding small details with luster waterpaints which shine in the light.
