thank you both. Had actually started on a gouache on black paper but the paper was overstretched , the board bowed under the paper- and my pencil point went through it ! So did this one instead

I love the strong tonal contrasts you achieve with the inks, Mike, and that sky is very atmospheric. Great composition.

Thank you Gudrun and Jenny. Our countryside is, literally , this colour at present. I normally complain , as a painter , that we are too green up here on the North Island but have never seen it like this in 50 plus years of living up here. (the South Island is having floods !!)

the second part of the process to complete the painting. Watercolour complimenting the ink under painting. Parts of New Zealand are experiencing droughts such as I have not seen before in the 55 years I have lived here. But I have to say , it is a colour range that I particularly enjoy using.
