Lovely atmospheric painting, Mike.

A lovely scene and painting Mike

I've found Prismacolor pencils to be really good. They've always had good color saturation. I don't know if they are available in New Zealand.

Have you ever tried soft pastels? I love working with them. You can use the larger sticks for broad strokes and pastel pencils for detail work.

Two lovely pieces Mike. I can't get on with watercolour pencils either but I love my polychromos.

Love the unusual effect of the mediums you’ve used in this Mike. I can’t help with the pencils, I don’t use them.

Like this even better. Mike, The Drawing Room in ChCh stocks Prismacolor, presumably you can order from their website. In fact they had a one-day special on them yesterday (unfortunately I've only just caught up with your paintings now).

Gordon Harris stocks Prismacolor as well, would be available from their website.

my thanks to all for the comments and information - to Richard for the name , to Sandra for the local knowledge.. With regard to pastels , Richard , the simple fact is that I don't like handling them. In making leather, certain syntans we use leave the leather with a very dry handle and one can almost feel the natural oils in your fingers being "sucked out". I find pastels have exactly the same effect on me. Funny peculiar it may be , but it takes away the pleasure of making an image. Will go looking for the Prismacolours , thanks.

Struck whilst the iron was hot - have ordered me some from Gordon Harris

Will look forward to seeing the results Mike. I'm with you over soft pastel, have tried it in the past but just can't cope with the dust. Pity as it would be a great medium otherwise. I am thinking about coloured pencils though, missed the prismacolour special unfortunately.

Gordon Harris had some on special

Thanks Mike. They've just moved into a lovely new shop here so will check it out.

this was a "try out" for the gouache painting. Have decided that water colour pencils are not as effective as straight coloured pencils. Really need good ones with maximum colour and minimum binding agent. Any suggestions ?
