Beautiful countryside., which you have captured well.

mustering done by horse back and light plane. Have been fortunate enough to have stayed on this station on a couple of occasions- public are allowed access during February - but are only allowed to drive through the 90 kms of unsealed road way in the one day- we were there for a couple of days and I was able to see parts not open to the public viewing. It is a Department of Conservation owned land but run as a cattle station - used to have sheep but they couldn't survive very well.

Beautiful painting, I love the wide expanse, very typical of that area. Did you know people are cutting through there as an alternative to the inland route?

No , I wasn't aware that it had been opened as a alternative route - but it makes sense with the coastal road being closed due to the earthquake at Kaikoura - might be problems come the winter ?

Mike I don't think it was officially opened as an alternative route, it was just being used by people who know the route. It says on the internet that it is closed now until Labour Week-end. While the coastal road is closed traffic is using the inland route, but that closes when bad weather like we've had recently causes slips. I think then the traffic is routed through the West Coast but don't know that route. There will be problems in the winter as all these routes can be affected by snow.
