untitled
Etching, wood, paper, plexiglass, steel. 800mm x 500mm Inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's "The Virgin and the Child with Saint Anne and St John the Baptist" at the National Gallery. Using various built-up layers and a stark contrast of lights and darks, the deliberate style is a reminder of the original's carefully penciled details. Unlike brushstrokes the use of the pencil strikingly reveals Da Vinci's precise hand movements. Acknowledging the religious nature of Da Vinci's artwork, the aesthetic conflict suggests a struggle between Heaven and Hell.
