Yellow and Violet 2!

Yellow and Violet 2!

Wow, this one is superb Louise and just with two colours, I am impressed.

I like this one a whole lot more because rather than balancing the use of the two colours, you have used the yellow just as flashes of emphasis and light, which works wonderfully. The purple pillars look just right. Well done for taking this forward and discovering the best use of these two difficult colours.

You wouldn't think that you could get the necessary darks with this combination, but of course - you can. If you think about it, of course, you're using all the primaries with a mix like this - purple is red and blue, you add yellow, and the tonal range is enormous. I prefer this one, of the two you've painted in violet and yellow, because it shows the possibilities somewhat better. I did like the sinister touch of the first one, though.

Super result Louise - owing a lot to your composition, and as Thea says, the way you have used the two colours. Reminds me a lot of the works of Viktoria Prischedko (https://www.facebook.com/prischedko) ; she often uses this combination, with the addition of just a few dabs of another colour to great effect.

Thanks Joseph, Thea, Robert and Sharon. Robert, I spent more time on this one and thanks for pointing me in this direction, I've learned a lot from trying the colours you suggested. Sharon, I looked up Viktoria's paintings and can only say that her work is extra special. A bit of an eye opener for me, quite extraordinary. Her use of colour is so good!

This is so special, Louise. I couldn't think of a subject to paint in those colours, except flowers maybe but you did very, very well. Where is the yellow and brown one gone? I was going to post a comment on that! And it was going to be a positive one :) Mia

Thank you Mia. I'm painting a background on the other one. It was too stiff for my liking which I saw as soon as it was on screen. It'll either work out or not!

Very impressive, amazing how many mixes and tones you have created with these two colours.

A fascinating painting Louise!

Excellent Louise!

Thank you Stephen, Satu and Fiona. Stephen, I can't get over all the different tones from just the two colours. Watercolour never fails to surprise!

Beautifully done, Louise. The shapes and tones are superb and really make the painting.

Interesting subject and great composition.

This is great Louise, I like how you take a scene and paint it in the unusual colour combination whereas I tend to think of something that actually is that colour. I think Robert actually meant the challenge to be interpreted as you have.

To my shame, I have only just found these. This works really well - I think the choice of subject for these colours can have a great impact on how well the image works. (How much of that is down to the conviction of the artist, I wouldn't like to say).

Great result Louise!

Fascinating for me to discover the different tones achieved by using just two seemingly incompatible colours, yellow and violet.
