An interesting gallery. This one in particular I like especially it's colours and it's elegant composition..Well done.

Thanks Phil, I have painted this one twice. I enjoyed it so much, the technique was new to me and I know I will use it again & again. Only used 3 colours for it, I find a restricted palette stretches one's abilities. Maureen

Copied from my reply to your comment.... in 'Greek Churches' Thank you for this exceptionally kind comment Maureen. The basis of my paintings is to crystallise a memory of an experience of a place I have visited or seen first-hand. None of my work is a pretend imaginary scene, though I may combine many elements into one painting. I often feel a great sadness with the places often abandoned or off the normal tourist track in Greece, So much so that even in a more visited monastery such as this I will not include people. Just round the corner of this church there was a priest in quiet contemplative reading of his religious tract. I later shared a coffee with him and explained how I would go home and do this painting. The floral works are again fantasias based on the flowers in my garden and my love of form & colours Again thank you from me and The Memsahib...I humbly suggest that your students should consider my blog & Meltemi in the forum too...

Returns..I would be interested in their feed-back if they visited my gallery, please.

Well done with this one Maureen, especially with such a restricted palette. I have just been studying a book of Cezanne paintings, and noticed how each time he used a very limited palette. It became a game to identify where the colours were repeated in the picture; in a portrait there was the same red in the face as on the tablecloth. In one picture of his wife she had blue-black hair and the same colour dress, in another she had brown-black hair and wearing a brown-black dress. The same in the landscapes; the results are very cohesive compositions and all the more effective. I was sorry to read of your woes in your blog, I do hope the new year brings fresh energy and better luck.

Watercolour ~ Approx. 8"x 10" The Wye Valley is one of our favourite places. Can you see why? I'll be leading a painting week there June 2009. The area is heaving with places attractive to artists.
