Beautiful drawing/painting - is this a hard pastel, or soft? It reminds of the red chalk drawings of Leonardo, amongst others, which were so full of character.

Robert - thank you for your comments - I used a hard pastel in these - had not really used this before so enjoyed experimenting with it - normally do my portraits in soft pastel or Graphite. Glennis and Mia - thankyou both for your confidence boosting comments - we all need the feedback to keep us going I think.

The same family friend asked me to do a similar portrait of his father (both mother and father were deceased) and again each step of the way was carefully and critically scrutinized. Once completed I was the happy one. Both portraits now grace a rather large entrance hall in a beautiful old Irish house.
