Laurence Brown sent in his version of Bob's project saying: 'My attempt at capturing this beautiful wolf was on a large sheet of grey sugar paper (in the absence of Ingres), so had to use a soft pastel with pastel pencil for detail, to avoid ruining the surface. I made a photocopy of the exercise, blown up to A4, then ruled a 1 inch grid for reference, then ruled a 1.5 inch grid on the sugar paper with a white pastel pencil. I sketched the outline in white and positioned the eyes, nose and mouth. The next step was detailing the eyes, nose and mouth with black pencil and the dark areas of fur with soft pastel, then working in a soft grey and white to the light areas with my fingers, (I do get messy!). Finally, after blending in various blues and greys, I searched the net for the original picture, to see what position the paws were in and checking the rock in the foreground. The end product was trimmed to fit a frame at 20 x 16 ins. and does not look too bad on the wall, well, my wife Rosie likes it! Thanks so much for the exercise, I would not have tried anything like this normally'.
