This is a lovely painting that caught my eye. The sky is glowing and there is a slight spooky feel to the painting, very atmospheric :-) The detail is excellent, crisp and clean.

Paul Hollingsworth responded to Colin's challenge in oils saying: 'I used Schmincke's Mussini range on 9 mm MDF primed with Golden's gesso. The colour plan is YG/Y/YO and complimentary V. I selected Colin's Angle 2 sky, and hence light and shadow, but Angle 3 for subject. I felt the cottage was not particularly interesting so have "converted" it (without Planning permission) to a thatched building, and enhanced the focal point with light in the windows. Contrary to Colin's suggestion, I felt that the inverted V of the steel gate bracing guided into the focal point - so I kept the gate. Also I preferred to retain the trees on the left crossing one another - I thought it added interest. I confess to obliterating too much of the imprimatura (Pompeian red PR101). I severely underestimated the drying time of the greens in the rhododendrons hence this late submission'.
