You made a really great job of this owl,I also find it difficult to get the right shades with my inktense pencils and white is the hardest if you don't put it on first you can't put it on after, so I use Rotring drawing ink for white hairs etc.

Jim Collins sent in his barn owl project saying: 'Thank you for the article in Leisure Painter it was much appreciated. This was my very first attempt at a pastel painting, and I’ve an awful lot to learn. I treated myself to some Pit pastels after being inspired by the article. I had no idea of how to use them or what paper to use. I bought a pack of W.H Smiths pastel paper and used the pale green tinted sheet. I found out very early on that I’m no where near delicate enough with the pencils, also I kept smudging everything with my drawing hand, even using a scrap piece of paper to rest on, (my shakes didn’t help an awful lot either! That’s a downside of being an old wrinkly!! (L.O.L). At one stage I’d used so much pastel on the sheet that subsequent strokes wouldn't take to the drawing. The main trouble I had was not having the correct shades, consequently it ended up on a trial and error basis with the colours. I seem’d to spend more time sharpening pencils than painting!! I can’t really think of anything else to say about it except that I had a great deal of pleasure from the exercise and will certainly be attempting another picture in the not too distant future, I think it maybe a landscape to try and learn more about the do’s and don’ts! So once again many thanks'.
