Working from a photograph of Haytor on Dartmoor I created this realistic painting. It was painted in acrylics on 30x40cm Hahnemuhle fine art cardboard using a selection of 6 brushes and a no.5 palette knife. The sky was painted with a 1 inch household brush. The clouds were scrubbed in with a well worn no.8 bristle brush and a no.6 round brush. The rocks were developed using the palette knife and a liner brush. For the grass and bushes I made use of a no.4 flat bristle brush plus a well worn no.6. Details required a no.1 liner brush. The colours used were Daler Rowney System 3 Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Red, Umber, White, Lemon Yellow, Ochre, and very little Phtalo Green. The painting took some 12 hours to complete. You can watch a time lapse speed painting video of the process on http://landscapeartblog.wordpress.com just copy this link into the address field of your browser
