Thank you all for your encouraging comments. Carole, this is soft pastel and I did it on Hahnemuhle LanaColours Pastel Paper, 160 gsm, I was trying out a new paper, one of 6 different ones included in a Jacksons Art trial pack of non-sanded papers.

I always say it's in the eyes! once you have them right the whole animal comes alive. Ginger looks really alert!
